Ingredients for How to Make Herb Butter

  • 1 stick Butter (or 1/2 Cup Homemade Butter)
  • Fresh Herbs – Use up your favorites – up to 4 Tbs. of fresh herbs. A basic combination is 1 Tbs each of Parsley, Tarragon, Rosemary and Chives. See below for more flavor suggestions.
  • Pinch of Sea Salt to taste

    Instructions for How to Make Herb Butter

    1. Let one stick of butter reach room temperature (or 1/2 Cup homemade butter).
    2. Chop the fresh herbs (make sure you’ve dried them well after washing – you don’t want any excess water).
    3. Mix the butter and the herbs together with a heavy spoon. That’s it!
    4. Herb butter can be wrapped in plastic wrap and rolled into a log, served in a bowl or pressed into molds. Silicone butter molds (see below for ordering) can be found for most any occasion and are an easy way to add a little extra theme to your dinner party. To use these molds, simply press some soft herb butter into the mold with a butter knife and then pop the mold into the freezer for just a few minutes. Keep re-loading and popping until you have the desired number of butter pads. They can be made ahead and then be stored covered in the fridge until ready to use, they will soften again when served. It’s fun to do and to serve.

    How long does herb butter last? The moist butter will keep your herbs green and flavorful for a few weeks if they are sealed airtight and refrigerated.

    That’s how to make fresh herb butter, but there are so many different flavors of butter that can be made for most any meal. Just start with soft butter and then mix in fresh herbs, veggies, zest from fresh fruits and other choice ingredients.

  • Lemon Herb Butter: 2 tsp Lemon Zest, 2 tsp Parsley, 1/2 tsp Thyme
  • Pecan Butter: 1/2 Tbs chopped roasted Pecans, 1 Tbs Brown Sugar
  • Honey Butter: 1 Tbs Honey, 1/8 tsp Cinnamon
  • Fruited Butter: 2 tsp your favorite Preserves, 1/2 tsp Rosemary
  • Mustard Butter: 4 tsp Spicy Brown Mustard, 1 tsp Chives
  • Sweet Hot Butter: 1 Tbsp Red Pepper Jelly, 1 Tbs Sriracha, 1/2 tsp black pepper, salt
  • Citrus Serrano Butter: 1 tsp each Lime, Lemon & Orange Zest, 1 minced Serano Pepper, 1 minced Garlic clove, salt & pepper
  • Bourbon Maple Butter: 1/4 Cup roasted & salted Almonds, 2 Tbs Maple Syrup, 1 Tbs Bourbon
  • Blackberry Lime Butter: 2 Tbs Blackberry Preserves, 2 Tbs Lime Zest, 1 Tbs Lime Juice
  • All of the suggestions above are to be mixed with 1/2 cup of softened butter as in the recipe above.
