Keurig Platinum Review Questions
How Does The Keurig Platinum Brewer Work?
The Keurig Platinum Brewer heats your water in its large attached reservoir tank after either you turn it on or the machine turns itself on at the time you have programmed. So, all you have to do is select and insert your K-cup, cup size and favorite mug and then press the large flashing button. The Keurig machine then punctures the K-cup at both the top and bottom so that the water flows through and produces your drink.
Then there’s the added benefit of being able to serve everyone exactly what they would like… strong bold coffee, mild or weak coffee, flavored coffee, green tea, black tea, apple cider, hot chocolate, cappuccino, just to name a few. No more forcing everyone to drink from the same pot made just one way. And, you can even use it to make iced drinks!
Does The Keurig Platinum Help Save Money?
That depends… Is time money? Often it is, and the convenience and speed of this K-cup machine saves you big time. It takes less than 30 seconds to brew an 8 oz cup of Keurig coffee from the moment of grabbing the K-cup. Compare that to brewing a pot of coffee (actually I can’t since I broke my last of several coffeepots awhile back) but it takes about 5-10 minutes by the time you get out the filter, measure the coffee, add the water and wait for it to stream and drip, drip, drip. And if you’re one of those that stops somewhere for coffee every morning then I’m guessing that Keurig is 15-20 minutes quicker. The energy savings mode with automatic on/off and timer also helps save money.
Just speaking dollars, K-cups are just slightly more expensive than coffee from beans brewed at home. But, when a bag of coffee is opened the oxidation process begins and the coffee begins to lose its flavor. Oxygen can’t terrorize a Keurig K-cup because it isn’t punctured until immediately prior to brewing so your coffee is always fresh.
Plus, how many times do you make a pot of coffee and end up tossing about half of it out? Coffee that sits around too long in the pot either ends up getting burned and/or getting tossed. The Keurig Platinum machine allows you to brew only what you will use – one cup at a time.
Is The Keurig Platinum Brewer Easy To Set-Up?
Yes! Gotta love a machine that just plugs in and is ready to go! Simply open the nicely packed box, take off a few pieces of tape, rinse the water container, fill it with water and plug in the brewer. Lastly, before you try your first K-cup, you should “brew” a cup of plain water through the machine and toss it in order to rinse the inside of the machine and then you’re all set to brew for real. Additionally, it comes with a dozen various K-cups to get you hooked.
Keurig Platinum Brewing System Features
In our Keurig Platinum review we found the most useful feature to be its fully programmable interface. You can set it to turn on/off at a certain time so that it saves time and energy. When programmed, the water will be warm and ready for use when you wake up and automatically turn off when you are finished. You can select the exact water temperature, up to 192 °F, that your drinks are brewed. And, it even lets you know when it is time to clean your machine.
Also, new accessories become available when you have a Keurig.
If you still prefer to grind and use your own coffee, you can get the Keurig My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter, which is a washable filter that you can use in place of a K-cup and fill with your favorite coffee.
If you need a convenient place to store your K-cups, this under the cabinet model looks pretty useful – and is on Amazon for $29.95.
For new K-cups and new flavors, you can find them cheaper in bulk deals, like the San Francisco Bay Coffee K-cups for $0.41 per cup on Amazon. There are also many sample packs you can find with a mix of all types of flavors if you are not sure what to get.
Any Complaints About The Keurig Platinum Brewer?
Not really, but for first time users there might be a slight learning curve. If different people are going to be using the brewer, it would be nice if the buttons were slightly more user friendly. The cups are pictured on the screen but the size capacity is not given, only small icons. Until you are used to the machine you don’t know for sure if you’re going to overflow your cup. On the same note, the buttons on the front of the machine could be labeled a little better. An arrow on the right and left button would tell people that their purpose was to move between the cup sizes before they just start pushing buttons.
Our Final Opinion?
Overall, we gave our product review of the Keurig Platinum Brewer 4.5 stars out of 5. The coffee tasted consistently great every time and it was so quick and easy to use. Filling the reservoir is easier than most machines because of the hinged front opening on the tank, eliminating removal of a lid and the use of that extra hand that you never seem to have in the morning. The shiny front handle for placing the K-cup was also a pleasure to grip and use. I’d say that my biggest problem is that I’m a little wired right now – the Keurig Platinum is so much fun to use and all the sample flavors were so tasty that I’m way above a normal caffeine level. I’m done for today but am already looking forward to waking up and using the Keurig Platinum again tomorrow…Unless of course I grab a decaf tonight…
We love the Keurig Platinum Brewer and suggest you give it a try!
