4th of July Cookies

This simple cookie recipe for 4th of July cookies is great for a 4th of July celebration, but you could always change the colors and/or shapes to make them for any occasion. It mixes up quick with a few simple ingredients and doesn’t stick to your fingers when you go to make cookies. This recipe makes a Play-doh like substance! Therefore, you can let the kids have some fun playing with the dough and then bake cookies for later – multi-purpose in a different sort of way!

As always, make sure there’s no waste… Use the remainder of the dry jello to make some jello or Jigglers. Simply use a little less water when mixing up the remainder of the dry Jello mix.

Instructions for 4th of July Cookies

    1. Beat the butter.
    2. Add the sugar and beat again.
    3. Add the flour mixed with the baking powder and mix.
    4. Separate the mixture into 3 different bowls.
    5. Add a different jello flavor to each bowl. One bowl (the white) can be left without any jello, it’s just that the jello is the flavor in these cookies.
    6. Add a few drops (2-4) of red food coloring to the cherry bowl and blue food coloring to the blueberry bowl to be sure that the cookies are indeed red and blue.
    7. Drop the cookies onto a cookie tray for round cookies or roll out sections of the dough at a time and cut out stars. You can also roll the cookies into more of the dry jello before placing them on the cookie sheet for added flavor.
    8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 6-8 minutes, depending if you like soft or crispy cookies.
